More than a few times, someone at a meeting has said "well, I can't really agree to this without hearing from so-and-so" or "I'm concerned that so-and-so would have a real problem with this". Sometimes the facilitator or someone in the group has then guided us towards a decision that reads something like "we agreed to X, as long as so-and-so is OK with it, we'll talk about it more next time if so-and-so has problems". Then, some specific person agrees to talk to that person. But I don't think we've ever thought that we had to contact *everyone*. We do have a pre-meeting notification process for decisions, so everyone who might be concerned has a chance to come to the meeting or talk to someone who is going. Our condo docs have language that allows 10% of the member households to bring any recently-announced decision up at a group meeting for reconsideration, which has so far seemed to provide a reaonable balance between moving forward & having some rights of review. The clause has been used once or twice. In the thread about community sizes there was a tangent about how many adults participate in a consensus process. In my observations, only a tiny handful of cohousing groups outreach to those not participating in a consensus process, but perhaps it is wider spread than I think. Here is what I want to know. If for example, there is a consensus decision, and 6 people do not attend the meeting where the decision is made, do you outreach to those 6 people and get their agreement, or just assume they support the decision? If you do outreach, how do you do it?
