Unexpectedly, a family who owned two of our few remaining unbuilt lots has decided to pursue other plans and resell these lots. In our thirteenth year, RoseWind Cohousing (Port Townsend Washington) has all 24 home sites owned, and most of them built and occupied, so this is a double opportunity: To join us, which is only available through resales, which don't happen very often, and To join a cohousing and also design your own home, choosing whatever size and quality and materials suit your taste, values, and budget. City and State building codes are the main requirements. Each lot is about 5000 square feet. Lot 12 is a really excellent piece of real estate, with a great location, view, and some elevation. It was chosen from all available lots by one of our three founders. The price (which includes the common-house and common-land purchase monies, as well as the cost of having put roads, sewer, power etc to the lot corners) is $47,500. This lot could comfortably fit a fair-sized house; in fact, 2 different sets of house plans are available if desired, from former owners who were going to build. Lot 16 is priced at $39,500. It has (friendly) homes fairly close on three sides, tall cedar trees nearby, and a view corridor to the central commons. It seems well suited to a compact two-story home, though what is built is up to the owner. The only other resale we have available is a fine custom house on lot 10, at $299,000. For more information on RoseWind, and Port Townsend, check out www.rosewind.org www.ptguide.com Those of you who were at the Berkeley conference saw the model of our wonderful sunny common house, with photos of the colorful and creative touches throughout. Port Townsend is a wonderful little liberal oasis on the Olympic Peninsula, with kayak and wooden-boat activities, lots of art, music, theater, dance, and public celebrations. Take a look at this especially if you are considering STARTING a cohousing: you can save yourself many years of work, especially if you want your young children to benefit (my once-4-year-old is now a senior in high school, having spent her childhood in planning meetings...)
