Stella, here are a few paragraphs on the good media coverage Liberty Village had. I am also working on a longer article of about 2000 words on "It takes more than houses to build community." It is almost ready for you. Do you want it for this edition? If not, I'll keep it and keep revising it for the next edition. Thanks. Martie LIBERTY VILLAGE IN THE MEDIA Liberty Village has been in the news recently. We used the dramatic installation of a new kind of insulation to attract both television and newspaper media. One local TV morning show aired about a two minute piece, showing the insulation being sprayed on and then puffing up to fill every space along with an interview with the owner. The local paper had a large article filling the entire width of the paper with pictures and Liberty Village in the headline, a PR person's dream. We accomplished this by faxing a media alert two weeks before the event to all the local TV stations and the local paper, followed up by a phone call. From that we had two interested reporters (the two who came) and several others possibly interested. Five days before the event, we followed it up with another faxed media alert with time and place. When the installation had to be delayed a day for a final building inspection, we faxed more media alerts and left phone messages. We also invited the governor and our two senators, none of whom could come. But we were delighted with the response that they know about cohousing and strongly support it. On the day of the installation, we provided lunch for the reporters and crew, and plenty to drink, since it was very hot. For the media who did not come, our alerts have given them more information on cohousing and on Liberty Village. Thanks to the MidAtlantic Cohousing Network, we had a large story on cohousing in the Washington Post. We had announcements of our Community Day Celebration in the local paper, and two of us were interviewed on the local cable channel. We are also putting flyers up in as many places as possible to keep the names of Liberty Village and cohousing in front of people.
