A DELIBERATE NEIGHBORHOOD BEING BORN Joan Burrell, Manzanita Village, Prescott, AZ Something new and lovely is being born between the turquoise sky and the butcher paper mountains of Prescott. Manzanita Village, the only Northern Arizona Cohousing community, named for the glossy green shrub that offers its blood red berries in fall, is coming to fruition. In the dream stages since 1994, founding villagers celebrated groundbreaking in 1998 and occupied their first homes in spring of 2000. Today twelve households live in stunning Craftsman style homes and enjoy nightly sunsets from an elevation of 5500 feet. A temporary Common House serves the community's needs. Member ages range from nine to eighty. Some working people, some single parents with their children, a newly engaged couple, a few early retirees and some lively seniors share life on twelve and one half acres overlooking the city of Prescott with its spectacular four season climate. It's "Everybody's Hometown." A number of the remaining twenty-four lots in the village have already been sold and construction will begin soon. Others are immediately available for sale or reservation. Lot prices range from mid 40's to high 50's. Our Labor Day sale offers a $1000 discount to anyone closing on a lot before the end of September. Families have a choice of five models ranging from 850-2000 sq. ft. Custom lots are also available. Southern and western exposures, with homes built into the hillsides, allow for both passive and active solar options. We, the families already here at Manzanita Village, are living as well, as deeply, as fully as we can while assisting in the birth of the rest of our community. We warmly welcome families with infants, children and pets as well as singles and seniors. As the construction continues into the next phase, we are able to use the pedestrian way for scooters, skateboards, strollers and bikes. A new basketball hoop was just recently erected. A wonderful hot tub soothes our tired muscles after busy days. Flowers and shrubs bloom in our yards, awaiting new families. For additional information about Manzanita Village, see our web site: www.manzanitavillage.com or email us at contact [at] manzanitavillage.com. You can usually reach a live person at (628) 445-3015. You may want to come and spend a weekend at our Common House to enjoy LIFE with us.
