A friend lent me a book by Michael Corbett, about 20 years old, called 'A
Better Place to Live'. Among other things he writes about the petrol age and
the break down of community, all very consistent with the philosophy
underlying cohousing.

So I'm glad to hear about this more recent book.

I first read about Davis, CA's Village Homes in the Millennium Whole Earth
Catalog. Recently I came across J.Corbett, M. Corbett's (2000) "Designing
Sustainable Communities- Learning from Village Homes" Island Press:
Washington DC (Dewey 307.1216 COR-D), which provides greater detail about
specific features making the Village Homes successful.

I'm convinced many aspects match cohousing culture! The book details the
inner workings of a beautiful & sustainable natural drainage system system,
the nuts & bolts of the narrow streets, the greenways, the sense of
community, energy conservation and "neighbourhood agriculture".
