RE: Washer/Dryer in Common House/Units

A while back there was some discussion about using a more prime location
in the CH for the laundry room so that it would be a more attractive
place to hang out in. At the time, I thought that sounded like a pretty
good idea, but because we were too far along in our CH design process,
we didn't do anything about it.

Now that we're moved in (since Spring 2000) and are using the CH
regularly, I'm kind of glad we didn't have the opportunity to move the
laundry room to a more prime location in the CH. Ours is located in the
corner of the basement with one window. It is well lit, spacious, and
clean, but not a prime location. I find that when folks do laundry,
they usually either put in the loads and then go back home to get on
with their lives or they hang around the CH in some other room. I don't
think folks would hang around more if the laundry room were nicer. We
have lots of very nice rooms in the CH made for hanging out and those
are easily available to folks doing laundry. There are a limited number
of prime locations in the CH and I can't think of one of our rooms
that's in a more prime location that I'd rather have in the corner of
the basement.

BTW, I'm the launderer in our family. We have 3 small kids (1, 3, &
6). And I like doing laundry in the CH because it's more
environmentally friendly and it gives me a chance to run into folks.
It's more environmentally friendly because I'm able to share the
resource (machines) with lots of other folks and we invested in very
water and energy efficient machines (Maytag Neptunes) which would
probably be too expensive for individual homeowners.
