I think that it may provide you with some ideas. Don Weil SOLTERRA VISION STATEMENT Our name "Solterra," meaning sun and earth was chosen because we wanted a name that shows the relationship between our community and the natural world and our dependence on it. Our guiding principles are: 1. We believe in the importance of living in harmony with the natural world. We will attempt to reduce energy use through efficient design and by taking advantage of the power of the sun. We will preserve a portion of the land in its natural state. We will practice organic methods in gardening and landscaping and we will be prudent in the use of toxic materials. We will commit ourselves to recycling. 2. We believe the purpose of community is to nurture the individual as well as create a strong sense of community. We recognize the individual's need for privacy. For this reason, the design of Solterra combines private homes and lots with extensive common areas. 3 We actively seek a diverse community that includes various ages and family structures as well as people of all races, religions, ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientation. 4. We will share responsibility for our common property. We will create a physical environment that encourages healthy community relationship. This includes sharing of meals and facilities. We will nurture a joy of living through planned and spontaneous celebrations. 5. We will involve ourselves in the broader community of Durham and Orange Counties and beyond. We will preserve and protect the history of the land and the buildings that have come to us. _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.communityforum.net/mailman/listinfo/cohousing-l
