One of the guys had mentioned Monday night at the common house party that they'd gotten the air compressor in the workshop running. When we noticed a tire was low, just as we were leaving to see family Christmas afternoon, he showed us how to turn it on, and his visiting father-in-law loaned us a tire gauge to double-check that my 30-year-old bicycle gauge was giving an accurate reading. The pressure got lower between every service station air pump during the hundred miles there and back, and the tire developed an audible hiss, so we planned that first thing the next day we would take the car to a tire shop. Wednesday, the lady whose backyard is kitty corner from ours stopped by to offer us an air compressor that ran off a car cigarette lighter, saying she'd noticed we had a flat. We thanked her very much, and explained about the compressor in the workshop. We went out to the car a little later. My room-mate started laughing. Someone had left a couple of cans of compressed air next to the car.
