>From Chris Sheehan at Sonora Cohousing in Tucson: Any advice or comments about choosing the resilient surface under play structures would be greatly appreciated. Some obvious choices on the top of our list are - sand - cheap, provides other activities in itself for play, can be tracked into undesirable areas, big litter box? ("cat proof" version), may compact in places, - wood chips - less tracking but more obvious when it gets out of the play area in that it doesn't "disappear" into cracks and grass, etc.., doesn't compact, may not hold up in our climate, not always good for bare feet - chat - very small gravel, ??? , good for bare feet - gravel - not too soft, not attractive, dusty sometimes, not good for bare feet Thanks for your input, Chris -----Original Message----- From: cohousing-l-request [at] cohousing.org [mailto:cohousing-l-request [at] cohousing.org] Sent: Friday, January 11, 2002 11:00 AM To: cohousing-l [at] cohousing.org Subject: Cohousing-L digest, Vol 1 #344 - 2 msgs Send Cohousing-L mailing list submissions to cohousing-l [at] cohousing.org To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://www.communityforum.net/mailman/listinfo/cohousing-l or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to cohousing-l-request [at] cohousing.org You can reach the person managing the list at cohousing-l-admin [at] cohousing.org When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Cohousing-L digest..." Reply-To: cohousing-l [at] cohousing.org Here at Two Acre Wood, we had a long debate on TV, but when a friend offered a free big screen TV, it came to a head. The resulting policy is: Videos only, no cable TV (only two or three households here have cable, so TV itself is not a big issue). We gather at one of those homes for the big stuff - election, 9/11, Olympics, etc. Also, our West Wing Club meets at one of these homes on Wed. nights. Most of the kids are not allowed to watch at all (we have mostly small ones and some Waldorf), so the request is we don't start movies til after bedtime. So far, it has worked really well. I am part of the group that enjoys a movie night - we sometimes just spontaneously share a video we have rented - it is rarely planned too far ahead. Several of us are single, so it is nice to watch with others in our cozy lounge. Clean-up is never a problem, you can't even tell we've been there. By the way, there was a TV discussion fairly recently that should be easily found in the archives. Central Ohio? Reply-To: cohousing-l [at] cohousing.org Thanks to this list, there are now some tentative early discussions about a cohousing project in Dayton OH. Preliminary ideas include doing some centralized, urban retrofit sorts of things, perhaps getting help from local government and civic redevelopment projects, with some interest in reducing needless redundancies... I stress "preliminary"... If anyone else here is interested in undertaking this adventure with us, please climb aboard and hang on! --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org http://www.communityforum.net/mailman/listinfo/cohousing-l End of Cohousing-L Digest _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.communityforum.net/mailman/listinfo/cohousing-l
