While we have always had childcare for our meetings, our group norm seems to be that small children are allowed to come in and out and pester their parents during the meeting. Some of our members find this an attractive feature of our meetings and would not like it if kids were forbidden; others of us absolutely hate it and find it a huge distraction. The issue has probably not been discussed enough by the group at large -- I think that probably some of those who hate it might be afraid to seem "anti-kid." All of our kids are ten and under and this has been the case for most of our time together. My now 16-year-old used to babysit and got majorly tired of that; he has been to some meetings and at this point I think the group would welcome his participation, but he's not interested. (Like so many other tasks -- when they're too little it's always "ME do it, ME do it" and as soon as they're old enough to really help they'd rather have iron spikes driven through their eyeballs.) ********************************************************** Eris Weaver erisw [at] sonic.net SoCoHo http://www.sonic.net/~erisw/socoho.html Sonoma County, Northern California _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.communityforum.net/mailman/listinfo/cohousing-l
