For those not yet living in cohousing: While I don't find the current dialogue particularly helpful, it is indicative of life in groups where individuals are trying to sort out their feelings and beliefs in the context of real life. The phrase "cohousing is not about real estate, it's about community," disregards the real life aspects of cohousing. Living in cohousing means working out daily life and re-examining our attitudes about kids, dogs, fumes, and communications. There are days when the bond of the real estate is the only thing that helps us confront these issues instead of walking away. This list is a good place to see the best and the worst of what you will have to deal with in cohousing. Fortunately, cohousing also has many resources to get groups through the brambles. If we want people to express feelings, we have to take the ones we dislike as well as the ones we like. And learn how to deal with the ones we find unhelpful.
