Cohousing-L Mailing List: how does digest mode work?

Fred or someone,

Can you enlighten me on how the digest mode works?  I thought I would
just get one set of messages a day...yet on 2/6, for example, I received
4 sets, totaling 39 messages.  I'm feeling overwhelmed with all this
email--I thought going to digest mode would help cut down the time I
spend reading cohousing email--but it's not working that way.

(I remember that folks have asked that contributors say where they're
from, so...I'm a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at Univ. at Buffalo
(NY)--not in a cohousing community yet, but sure hope to be one of these
years--did a study of several communities for my master's thesis a few
years ago--now I'm researching "voluntary simplicity".)
