What you call cozy, some would call crowded. No, I have not yet seen a lot development model which does the street notion, with houses facing across a street from each other. At Sharingwood, our pedestrian area is a loop, with a large garden in the center which all the homes face into. The sort of dense, Urban crowding models promoted by the Cohousing Company tend not to be used in rural settings, where lot development is more likely to occur. One reason is perhaps because of zoning issues. We hired the Cohousing Company to help us with our pedestrian design, but the community rejected their street proposal, it didn't fit the rural nature of our community. Perhaps some other lot development group has done this? Rob, a related consequence to using more land is that it affects the layout, making dense pedestrian street layouts more difficult, I imagine. Are you aware of any lot development model cohousing communities that have achieved the "cozy" feel and easy sight lines to multiple neighbors of communities like for example Puget Ridge?
