I've approved this message for posting adding a prefix to try to establish
a cohousing connection more clearly.

Original Subject:
Fwd: Be creative -- or die
(how the "new creative class" is shaping urban life)
>From the web document sited below:
A new study says cities must attract the new "creative class" with hip
neighborhoods, an arts scene and a gay-friendly atmosphere -- or they'll
go the way of Detroit.
Maybe cohousing could have similar benefits and this could be used
as talking point in approching cities for cooperation...

Very interesting. Including a rationale for how affordable housing helps
the local economy, which is borne out by my observation of how
neighborhoods like Little Five Points have evolved over the
years....artists and musicians move there because it's cheap to live, they
make it "cool", then all the yuppies move in, the rents go up, and then the
artists and musicians who made the place interesting in the first place
migrate to the new urban frontier (which seems to be East Atlanta right at
the moment).
I particularly liked the "gay index" and "bohemian index" as predictors of
economic health. I believe I shall have to get this book when it comes out.
