Alright Folks:For the two years I've been on this list, I've seen (not to mention posted) any number of messages like the following:
If groups could please send us your by-laws/articles of incorporation as well as your codes, covenants and restrictions (cc&r's). Looking at how different groups have organized themselves in the specifics would be very helpful.
or:
I am wondering if folks from other cohousing communities would be willing to get me a copy of their membership policy and applications (and of course anything else you believe would be helpful to us!)
While cohousers are known for their willingness do things that are new and innovative, they are also known for an increasing unwillingness to re-invent the wheel every single gol-durned day. With about 100 groups out there in various states of forming, building, or living, there must be tens of thousands of pages worth of cohousing documents already in existence and ready to be shared. The time has come to Stop The Madness.
I'm willing to receive, organize, archive, and make available all the by-laws, CCandR's, membership applications, community life agreements, pet polices, articles of incorporation, budgets, decision-making policies, common-meal systems and ANYTHING else that you've got on paper. All of it can be of use to some group, somewhere, that is struggling with the same problems that you solved so gracefully. I've just come back from vacation, and I'm feeling masochistic, so take your best shot--inundate me with paperwork. Bury me in a flood of community decisions. I'll take it all. Pdf's, Doc's, Zip's, Html's, Xls's and Txt's--if it's machine readable, I'll read it. Heck, you can even send me dead trees if you want, I'll scan 'em in.
Be the first to get your community enshrined in the Hall of the Heroes of the Great Coho Document Roundup. Send anything you've got to robert [at] arjet.net. I'll keep tabs on who sends in the most, and will publish the Hall of Heroes within 30 days.
