The MidAtlantic Chapter of The Cohousing Network had a highly successful
seminar with Laird Schaub on Sunday, Sept 8. 24 people from eight
cohousing communities gathered for two four-hour sessions on how to have
meetings which people love to attend. The prospect of that delights
everyone!

Blueberry Hill Cohousing graciously offered their beautiful new common
house for the meetings and included a tour. workshop participants came
from as
far away as Blacksburg, VA and Durham, NC.

Most of the morning was spent on the role of the facilitator, helpful to
those in that role and those who are not. It was obvious that getting
clear on that role can make things much easier for communities.

In the afternoon, Laird discussed specific issues that were confronting
communities. He also addressed two areas that were mentioned as of
special interest: how to handle emotional content in a meeting, and how
to delegate to teams.

This was the second workshop of this year that MAC has presented. It was
in response to a desire at the June seminar for more specific training
on facilitation and consensus decision making.

The purpose of MAC is to build a community of communities, to support
each other as we build and live in our communities, to have fun
together, and to bring the word about our communities out to a larger
audience. MAC encourages communities to have one representative on the
planning calls and meetings. The next meeting is scheduled at Proximity
at 11:30 to 3:30PM on Sunday, Sept 15 or 22 - date to be decided within
the next few days.
