The first few days in the house, the hissing of the flames when the water heater turned on was noticeable in the kitchen, next to the furnace room, but then it became just one of the house noises that my subconscious doesn't pass along. If our pumps make any noise, it isn't much. The radiant heat is far less noisy than say a refrigerator, even a very quiet one. Basically, it's just a larger than average water heater (and replaces the culinary/bathing water heater, so subtract that when you are calculating costs).
