Pre-teens must be supervised in the common house. In some cases this has meant having a "sponsor" to attend community meals when the parent could not. Teens (of whom we don't have many) can be in unsupervised -- doing laundry, cooking meals, watching dvds. There is a kids room but not a teen room. Somebody on the monthly chore team has the job of locking the common house every night. During the day several doors might be unlocked if people are present. There is an informal policy that you lock whatever door you leave by when an event breaks up. We are semi-urban, in a rundown neighborhood of working class, minority, and immigrant population, next to a light industrial zone, some gang problems, vandalism, etc. Kay at Wasatch Commons, where the car broken into this week had, "Nothing stolen because nothing to steal," as the owner said. _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.communityforum.net/mailman/listinfo/cohousing-l
