These words have been very confusing to me and I was happy to see the definitions in the sociocracy materials as:

1. Vision: An image of the future, a lofty dream, an ideal end-state.
2. Mission: The assignment the organization gives itself to realize its vision. It's nature in terms of the outside world. 3. Aims, goals, objectives: The concrete form the product or service will take.

This set of vision/mission/goals can be stated by individuals as well as by groups, and for small tasks as well as big ones like building a cohousing community. My personal set for finding a cohousing community were

Vision: To live in an extended-family-like community where I could have privacy and independence as well as share life events, that I could afford to live in for the rest of my life.

Mission: To find or help create a cohousing community in a geographic area with some interest (beach, mountains, urban, etc.), that is designed on a condominium concept (not lot development or individual houses), with people of liberal but fairly mainstream views (no ideological worship of vegan, TV-less life on the fringes) who are professional and business like in their interactions (no trusting in the ocean of life to provide).

Aims, Goals, Objectives:
1. Look at all the options available by reading the cohousing listserve and joining those of various communities that looked interesting.
2. Cut ties in New York City (had not looked promising for cohousing).
3. etc. etc. This was a long list of things to do and consider and test.

The interesting thing to do is to do these for yourself instead of waiting until everyone else is willing to do this too. I think groups have a hard time doing this until each individual has a clear sense of their own vision/mission/goals. Has any community done this?
