Hi, Fred the list manager here. I decided to reply to this one. On Thu, 20 Feb 2003, Sheila, sbraun wrote: > I'd like to see the list become more technologically up to date. I'll stand by my decision to exclude attachments which are more of a problem than benefit in my opinion. I fail to see the shortcomings of Cohousing-L archives, I think they are currently among the best around. I particularly like that there is one link (per year) to get to current messages - most recent on top: http://csf.Colorado.EDU/cohousing/2003/ The search tools need improvement but work. The subject search is particularly useful (tho with my browser you have to reload the results the first time). A second set of archives are available at Yahoogroups for those that prefer. BTW I expect the new version of Mailman listserv software (ver 2.1) to be installed soon which will include some changes including the way html is stripped automatically. > > Why are so many of the postings lately coming by way of the moderator? > It's almost a majority these days. Is that how many postings are being > sent to the list "in the wrong format"? I was curious about this so I used the subject search to find that so far there have been 209 posts to cohousing-L in Feb (search for "2003.02" ) 13 posts from me as moderator (search for "2003.02" + Fred ) Of the 13, 7 were reformated to remove attachments 6 were for other reasons I'm still pondering Gregg Dunn's comments including "suppressed a message of mine" and "censorship of this list" which I dont understand, I've requested details off-list. With very few exceptions (almost all clearly SPAM), everything that gets sent to cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org from a subscribed address gets distributed. You're welcome to post specific complaints of censorship. I have have over the years made the decisions about the operation of the list tho I have had lots of input. I think meaningful consensus among 500+ people online about such things is impractical. I have generally felt that discussion of listserv operations were a distraction for most subscribers and therefore discouraged posting such messages. If you feel you must post on list operations, go ahead.
