We've been living in an era of the cult of the child.

I'm sorry, this is just wrong. We live in a society where the rights of anyone...including children....who aren't able to advocate for themselves, and who don't have the power to enforce their desires, get trampled. The children who have parents who are willing to stand up for their children are the rare, LUCKY ones....and those parents are often seen as selfish and demanding.

I don't allow my son to make excessive noise where it's disruptive and I don't allow him to pester people. But I've seen people give my son a hard time when he was just STANDING there minding his own business, not making noise, not hurting anything. People do that. They think that being bigger and stronger gives them the right to be a petty tyrant. Children are human beings with rights, not nonentities, not toys or playthings or extensions of their parents or super-annoying pets. They're **people**.

  It creates demanding
and self centred people who don't know how to love, perhaps contributing to
reported rises in depression.

Or maybe the prevalence of people who think their convenience is more important than the principle of acceptance of other people?

Sara
