Cohousing-L Mailing List: A farewell from one of my neighbors

As happens, we are losing a family (and gaining another). They wrote a very
nice farewell which I would like to share with you all. As the author of
this email told me, with many tears, Moving out of community is one of
hardest things I have ever done.

You are our friends and have touched our family in more ways than we could
possibly list.
You are the friends who have taught us how to live in
community: how to speak our own truth in honesty,
then patiently watched as our truth changed.

You taught us how to listen without always giving advice; how to respect and
enjoy your path without judging that path. You have taught us to garden and
gardened with us.

You made us dinners and ate ours without complaint. You have taught and
cared deeply for our children, bending your knee to speak eye to eye; you
have been their family.
You introduced Kyle to The King's Gambit then took joy as he ran with it,
trophy after trophy.

> You taught or supported 2 budding musicians, clapping through Twinkle
Twinkle, and later, Shostakovich. You took time to stop for coffee, share a
book or a beer; a walk or a motorcycle ride; a car show, a  movie, a Silly
Walk or a Red Dwarf.

You shared with us the passions in your own lives which has inspired us to
live for our own
dreams.

> So come let us say thanks for your friendship and
also for inspiring us to be brave enough to risk change.
We begin a new chapter with many fears about loss of
community and loneliness. We need many hugs with
reassurance of your continued friendship and
hopefully  extended visits.

A woman who lurks on this list (Hi, Chrisanne) has written an article about
me and my son in the local alternative paper. It talks about cohousing and
wrongly attributes the quote about cohousing being the most expensive
personal growth course to me, (who was it who said that? Rob?) but
otherwise, I'm quite happy with it. Click on the middle picture. That's me
with Ben in front.

BTW, if you met me at the cohousing conference, that's my natural hair
color, and I'm 40 lbs. lighter now.
