I think it must make a huge difference in commonhouse usage whether your community is individual houses -- lot development -- or adjoined townhouses and apartments as ours is. When I imagine a lot development model like many of the site plans I've seen, I'm not sure I would ever go to the commonhouse unless there were a specifically planned activity that I wanted to join. With all units joined, you have to enter the commonhouse to get mail and go by it at least to get to your car. Over half of us actually have to go through it to go anywhere. It is our "lobby" as one of our nannies calls it. This must make a big difference in informal usage.
