Diane- We used "soil pavement" in a very limited application at Pioneer Valley Cohousing in Amherst, MA, and it is holding up several years later. We used it to pave a parking space for a golf cart. The parking space is at the edge of our asphalt paved "loop" in a location that used to be grass. The installation was done by us, by hand, and was rough to begin with. It has held up now for two years, and looks smoother than it did originally. I am sure a "professional" installation would be quite smooth. We considered using it to pave our parking areas and driveways 3 years ago, but the manufacturer did not have any cold weather installations that had yet stood the test of winter, or several winters, so we opted for asphalt as a safer investment. If I remember correctly, they had just completed an installation in Minnesota, and were about to experience winter #1 with plowing and freezing. We have 1800 feet of driveway and parking areas, and another 600 feet of paved loop that all gets plowed and sanded/salted with a full-sized truck. We needed a proven surface material. If we were to pave new surfaces now, and the surface was only going to be cleared with a snow blower, I would certainly consider it as an acceptable alternative based upon our limited trial. Larger installations would require more data and proven success in survival of several winter seasons.
