Oakland, California

Morning: Consensus
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Bringing together the wisdom of the group for the best possible
decisions--it sounds like a nice ideal, but how do groups do it
effectively? This workshop will offer a coherent approach to consensus,
including the official structures (agreement, standing aside, blocking),
the principles underlying them, and what it really takes to make them
work.

        Afternoon: Facilitation
1:00 pm - 5:30 pm

This workshop will cover the essentials of what every meeting facilitator
needs to know. After going over the basic principles, we'll practice
dealing with difficult situations, such as: how to intervene gracefully
when someone is speaking too long; how to support all parties when a
conflict comes up; and other situations as suggested by the participants.
Come try out these key skills in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

Workshop leader: Tree Bressen

Tree Bressen is an experienced facilitator who's worked with groups
ranging from her local food co-op to the national Green Party convention.
Her base is in intentional communities, groups of people who live
together and have to deal with each other every day! Her work arises from
a desire for people to learn the communication skills that will enable
all of us to build a better world together.

The Site: Swan's Market Cohousing

The workshops will take place in the Common House of Swan's Market
Cohousing, North America's 50th Cohousing community, in the historic Old
Oakland neighborhood of downtown Oakland, California. The site, within a
historically-preserved mixed-use 1917 public market building, is fully
accessible, with an elevator and wheelchair-accessible restroom.
Participants will also have the opportunity to meet people living in
cohousing in this and other communities, and to visit a unit between
sessions. Onstreet and garage parking is available nearby; BART (a 12
minute trip from downtown San Francisco) is a block away.

As a longtime group member of the Cohousing Association of the United
States (Coho/US), we are providing discounts to other members - join
