The cost of the common house was added to our mortgages. I'm sure there is a
dollar figure somewhere, but I don't know it. My guess is around 230K, in
1993 housing dollars. The units were from 88K for a 1 bed to 160K for a
5bed. I think construction casts were $3 million, with the city subsidizing
the difference in price, through loans to individual owners. It would have
cost far less if there hadn't been a hurricane in Florida that year, which
doubled our wood costs.

Housing prices were quite depressed in '93, and we were moving into a
neighborhood that was very inexpensive. The block we built on had had
several houses razed or moved in order to clear out the blight and
prostitution that the block was infamous for.

Today we are in a very different situation. In large part because we moved
here, the neighborhood has slowly taken off in popularity, and many homes
have been renovated, and nearly all empty lots have new homes on them. We're
also close to everything, and have an influx of people from the Bay Area who
have "discovered" Sacramento. Home prices have soared, and our homes are
worth more than twice what they were 3 years ago. My 3bed is probably worth
around $350+K.

Not sure if you wanted a reply to the whole list, but what the heck, it's
not that busy.
