The Shelter Institute that I wrote about recently has nothing to do with "hippie home building" and construction during the 70s that was done by a lot of folks doing very non-traditional construction, often by people with little training. The homes that can be produced using Shelter Institute kits or as a result of their courses are of extremely high quality and would pass local building codes. They have extensive experience on quality "green" design and high quality insulation materials as well. Their courses teach the theory of home design and engineering as well as nitty gritty of construction. I hope no one was led astray by some of the notes that followed my post.
