The biggest reason we decided NOT to open it up was purely physical: our meals are very well attended and our dining room is full! We have no ROOMto add more people!
Wanting to open meals is very altruistic and people here wanted to do the same thing. Our lawyers were afraid it would raise all sorts of liability and tax issues (this does not fall under the condominium law so what would it be -- a restaurant?). Before we got a legal decision we saw that it was impossible and unnecessary. We have a number of regular guests and we have no more room for more people.
We are a large community 43 units and 82 residents. Meals quickly become impossibly large. We don't even have that many chairs!
