Regarding Carol Burrell's question about affordable cohousing opportunities. I consider myself fortunate enough to be able to live in Casa Verde Commons cohousing (2 years now). After being intimately involved in the planning, construction and marketing of Casa Verde, my thoughts about why there aren't more cohousing opportunities circle around two things: affordability and the process necessary to develop community. I'm convinced the affordability issue can be addressed more easily than the process issue. The tremendous amount of time, commitment, and effort needed to develop a cohousing community can be a huge obstacle. If you're not there yet, try reading and following ideas presented in "Superbia! 31 ways to create sustainable neighborhoods" by Dan Chiras and Dave Wann published by New Society Publishers. A sustainable neighborhood (not necessarily cohousing) can go a long way to satisfying personal needs that cohousing addresses so well. Best regards, Louise Conner
