Personally, I'm glad for the post. It has sparked a number of thoughtful, calm responses that remind me why I'm doing this. When I'm as comfortable with my decision to live in cohousing as I am, I have no trouble engaging with people who have their doubts (trust me -- my conversations with my mother-in-law have been excellent training.) I know that cohousing can be out of reach for so very many. In my opinion that is because owning a home is out of reach for so many and there are extra costs incurred to build community space. My community went to great lengths to make our units avaliable at market rate -- but in Boston, market rate is still unaffordable. I would suggest that if Mr. Stambler were to create his own community -- be it cohousing or whatever he believes this should be, he would discover the realities and relate better to our vision and the challenges of our vision.
