The big picture of cohousing

Can anyone suggest a source for recent information about the growth or
otherwise of the cohousing movement around the world and by countries?
Changes in the rate of growth would be interesting, as would information
or informed speculation about the reasons.

I am a Green Party member who thinks that cohousing may be a crucial way
of maintaining or improving our quality of life in a resource-constrained
future, and of maintaing a "steady-state" economy and society. I think
also that cohousing may provide a better living environment, and
especially for bringing up children and transmitting culture, than the
atomized society that seems to be a product of "industrial civilization".

I'm also interested in recommendations for public policies and
institutions (legislation? taxation? banking rules and customs?) which
would promote cohousing and create a friendly environment for it, and
especially in measures which don't require public expenditure and/or
would be supported by other interests.

Any leads would be appreciated.
