This may have already been suggested. However, an idea regarding the care of elders is to do a little research in the field. There are books on the subject. One could also explore human resources, people in your area who are knowledgable about the known issues of aging. People who are experienced in this area could contribute information, which can then be applied to the individual situation. Aging is a developmental stage of life and thus has some predictable psychosocial aspects that, once known and understood, can be incorporated into planning and the desire to be responsive. I did a quick check on the internet ... lots of hits ... but I'd imagine local resources would be rich as well. Our local rec center has a "Silver Sneakers" area ... My perspective comes from being in a position of advising parents of children in difficult stages. I told them one of the best things you can do is to become an "expert in the field" of two-year-olds or adolescents or whatever. It helps to know what's going on is part of the individual's developmental stage in life as opposed to a personality quirk. Saoirse Harmony Village Cohousing Golden, Colorado
