This may have already been suggested. However, an idea regarding the care of 
elders is to do a little research in the field. There are books on the subject. 
One could also explore human resources, people in your area who are 
knowledgable about the known issues of aging. People who are experienced in 
this area could contribute information, which can then be applied to the 
individual situation. 

Aging is a developmental stage of life and thus has some predictable 
psychosocial aspects that, once known and understood, can be incorporated into 
planning and the desire to be responsive.

I did a quick check on the internet ... lots of hits ... but I'd imagine local 
resources would be rich as well. Our local rec center has a "Silver Sneakers" 
area ... 

My perspective comes from being in a position of advising parents of children 
in difficult stages. I told them one of the best things you can do is to become 
an "expert in the field" of two-year-olds or adolescents or whatever. It helps 
to know what's going on is part of the individual's developmental stage in life 
as opposed to a personality quirk.
