Just one perspective about reserves, this being a psychological one .  I was
in a frank discussion once where many of the people wanted to put in the
minimum towards reserves because they has little faith that they would be
living in that building in the thirty years later time frame, and so if it
cost something extra, they would not be paying for it.  This came from the
wider notion that America is not the kind of society anymore where people
live 30 years in one house. In fact, such longevity in one place is almost
unheard of in this generation. We are mobile, we move for jobs,
relationships, or just to change scenery.  In this group discussion that I
am describing, not one person in the 25 people had ever lived anywhere in
their lives longer than 9 years!  They had little attraction to charging
themselves a bunch of money for something they would never receive and
choose to put in whatever the minimum requirement was.

So the whole notion of planning ahead thirty years can be extra challenging.
I know it was for this particular group
