We at Oak Creek Commons in Paso Robles, California are now engaged in a project to generate solar electricity and have our meter run backward. Our utility company (PG&E) has a program enabling small producers to sell their electricity back to the company.

We are encouraging members to contribute private money to the project in return for reduced dues.

A planned contractual agreement is projected to cover the fine points of the arrangement.

I just read an article in The Washington Post of 10/12/06 (page A 16)
about a remarkable new energy program that will be launched in Ontario
next month.

Homeowners and businesses in this Canadian province will be compensated
by their local utility companies for any electricity they generate from
small solar, wind or water projects.

Cohousing communities in Ontario can benefit from this progressive new
energy program, if they invest in their own 'clean energy' project.

Similar plans have already been implemented in Europe, and will
hopefully be introduced to the US population in the near future. US
cohousing communities might become catalysts for this kind of renewable
energy program.
