Becky: There's an old book which I've found useful and which addresses some of the children-policy issues. It's called "Living Together in a World Falling Apart" and I remember they had an entire chapter on this. It's written by a couple who travelled around with their child visiting a variety of communities (all of which were religiously oriented but that doesn't negate their excellent observations and reports). They addressed issues like expected behavior, whether or not other adults were allowed to discipline someone else's child, etc. They also noted that many of the communities required the children (upon turning 18) to leave the community for 2 years and that a very high percentage of them chose to return to live in their (or another) community after some period of time living outside an intentional community. Very interesting book. Diane
