But the rural areas have no access to water or sewer, for the most part, as even a fair amount of the villages do not have water and sewer. (The hamlet I'm in is only getting sewer next year, and has no plans for public water.) Which is why I'm trying to get a handle on the difference between the cost of public access and private well/septic. I do think there are interesting tradeoffs available and I'm wondering what others, in this situation, have opted to do.We are getting raw land and putting in our own septic and wells with a common sewer line to the leach field. I think it is difficult to figure the cost difference as each situation is different depending upon the geology of the land. We had to put our leach field outside the village area because there was no place that was suitable for the leach field, so each house will have a septic tank and the product that comes out of the tank will be pumped to the leach field. We had thought that we could put our leach field near the village originally and had to change plans once the tests were done.
Costs of septic systems can also vary, especially when getting into non-standard types like above ground.
Thanks to you both, April
