Announcing - Farmers Market Flats Cohousing, Lowertown area of downtown St Paul Minnesota! Cohousing Advocates is offering all interested would-be cohousers the opportunity to form a new cohousing community in Lowertown St. Paul, on 5th Street and Wall, directly across from the St. Paul Farmer's Market. The entire third floor is reserved for the cohousing community. It will consist of 11 condominiums and one common unit (the group's common area), with a kitchen and dining area large enough for the whole community, plus extra amenities to be determined by the group. Ground has just been broken and construction is targeted for completion by Fall 2008. On the street level of the building, will be a year-round, indoor Farmer's Market, featuring a restaurant and products from more than 160 area growers and producers, and demonstration space to involve customers in the experience. The City of St. Paul is supporting development of the indoor Farmer's Market. The developer is committed to green building techniques. These include sustainable site development, storm water runoff savings from the roof, rooftop greenery and deck , energy efficiency (using St. Paul's District Energy); materials selection such as bamboo flooring and Energy Star Appliances, and indoor environmental quality. Green space nearby includes Mears Park and a short, comfortable walk or bike ride to the 27-acre Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary under the bluffs of the Mississippi River. Connections to the Bruce Vento Regional (bicycle/hiking) Trail and from there to the State Gateway Trail and Minneapolis-St Paul Grand Rounds trails. Prices range from the low $170's to $270's, for 1- and 2-bedroom units. These prices include the cost of the common house and all its facilities. There may also possibly be affordable housing financing for some of the units, for individuals who qualify. I'd welcome calls or emails about this: contact Joelyn [at] CohousingAdvocates.com or 952-926-8554; or see more on our web site (should be posted by tomorrow) at www.CohousingAdvocates.com.
