I have frequently thought about telling my community, "I will not do any
work and will not pay the community for the loss of my services."
I was recently penalized by the Board because I performed an impromptu piece of work on a part of the common area. I was accused of damaging community property. (It was later determined that the changes I made to the common area did not damage anything of value. What was originally considered vital later turned out to be not needed.)
So, if working to improve the development is likely to subject the worker to liabilities, then why would anyone want to work? Our CC&R's specifically exempt committee members, as well as Directors, and officers from liabilities if their work is done carefully and in good faith. I think that any volunteer should be protected with the same exemptions as committee members, Directors, and officers.

I've mined the archives, but haven't really found what I'm looking for, so here goes: What happens in your communities if someone stops doing any work? Let's say you've already spoken with this person and they flatly say they are not going to do any work on behalf of the community. What happens then? Thanks, Maggi Touchstone Cohousing, Ann Arbor, Michigan (going on 2 years built & living together) one of the triad of Little Lake Cohousing Communities _________________________________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list -- Unsubscribe, archives and other info at: http://www.cohousing.org/cohousing-L/
