Quoting Muriel Kranowski <murielk [at] vt.edu>:"...finding out if other communities have a policy about allowing former owners and former renters to remain on your community listserv after those folks leave."

Muriel,

Here is our policy:
Who can on the Eno Commons Listserv (eno [at] enocommons.org)?
? current owners and their significant others
? current renters and their significant others
? former residents who are on the cooking schedule
? kids of current residents who have parental permission
? former residents for up to six (6) months after moving from Eno Commons
(this should provide a graceful transition for those who move away and
     address those concerned about lurkers)
o After six months, Robert will remove former residents
from the EC active list, eno [at] enocommons.org,
and will ask them if they want to move to the Friends of EC List,
       ec_friends [at] enocommons.org.

So our policy allows those former residents who are still active in the community, former residents who are on the cooking schedule, to be on the listserv.

To formulate your own policy, work out the different access during the lifecycle of a member. Although not stated in our policy, I make it a practice that when someone signs a contract with a current owner (to rent or buy), I add them to the listserv. However, I do not give them the userid/password to the neighbor section of our website until they close/move-in.

I hope this helps.
