Option for ONE cohousing-L summary message per week

The recent spurt of activity has died down but there will probably be
others. This message is for people who feel overwhelmed by all those
messages. I think the biggest problem Cohousing-L has that causes people
to unsubscribe is information overload.

C-L-sum exists to give people another option to deal with this. C-L-sum is
a separate mailing list and low volume email way of participating in
cohousing-L by getting ONE weekly with list of topics discussed on
Cohousing-L. It is easy to browse the cohousing-L archives to see what is
being discussed as an alternative to getting all that email but if one
unsubscribes, but there is a tendency to not get around to browsing the
archives. The C-L-sum weekly mailings also serve as a reminder that
Cohousing-L discussion goes on (and on and on * :) and reminder to browse
the archives.

If you are thinking about unsubscribing from cohousing-L, please consider
subscribing to C-L-sum - details:

* I'm not complaining, I'm just amazed sometimes.

--- Why are there so few people (29) on the C-L-sum list? ---

Here is an summary of the two lists in the 22 months since C-L-sum was started:

          Cohousing-L C-L-sum
          subs msgs subs msgs **
01-01-06 650 1
01-04-07 745 2459 23 54
10-01-07 819 4042 29 91

subs = number of subscribers receiving list messages as of date shown
msgs = number of email messages sent to each (non-digest) subscriber
since 1/1/06 when C-L-sum was started.
Note that over 52% of cohousing-L subscribers are in digest mode which
cuts down the number of messages to one or a few per day.

Three possible explanations for the relatively small number of C-L-sum
subscribers after 22 months come to mind:
1) There really is not much need for C-L-sum; digest mode suffices.
2) C-L-sum does not in practice offer the enough functionality.
I know C-L-sum is more complicated to explain and use than would be
desireable but I've done the best I can (suggestions welcome)
3) Potential C-L-sum subscribers don't know about it or find it
easy enough to sign up / use

This message is an attempt to deal with 3) ...
If you have any comments / suggestions, I'd be very interested in hearing them.
