Jane from New Jersey went to her first meeting of a cohousing group and noticed there were a lot of single women. Jane, there is a big difference between the status of people in a forming group, one which does not have actual mortgagable property, and a group which does. Forming groups typically change membership as the costs and realities of building become more concrete. So if the group you went to was a forming group, personally I would not worry about the make up of the membership because it will most likely change later. If it is an established group with mortgages in place then that membership is typically much more stable and a more accurate representation of the reality of life in that community.
