Jane from New Jersey went to her first meeting of a cohousing group and noticed there were a lot of single women.
Another data point: Among our 33 households, 4 single men and 14 single women are currently homeowners. The rest are couples and 2-parent families. That ratio has held fairly constant throughout.
I think that, aside from any biologically innate desires to own one's home, it's easy to posit why single women who have lived through various life experiences would value community so greatly compared to men.
