Yes, we celebrated. We set up our great room like a theatre and used the video
projection system
to watch the results, flipping from CNN to MSNBC to PBS. About 25 of us
gathered to watch the
fun with wine and trail mix. While the community was pretty unanimous for
Obama, we all clapped
for McCain's very gracious concession. After my wife and I went home, we spent
some time
watching the Fox News people look glum.

Only in cohousing... my experiences last night

- Over our common-house dinner, of about 30 folks, we listened to returns on NPR
- Karly talked about making cookies before she had to meet with her student
- During dinner, Karly (my wife of 28 years) fell and hurt her ankle -
many rushed to her aid (including a former nurse)
- One of our neighbors said that she'd bring us some home-made cookies
so Karly could relax
- I went home to do some online work while watching Broadcast TV on a
few channels using our TIVO
- About 10 other community members set up an impromptu Net broadcast
watching party in the common house (no broadcast TV there)
- Karly did some ESL training for a high tech professional in the
common house living room
- My internet connection suddenly went dead (and I lost a little work)
- I called the common house to ask about it - turned out the watching
party allocated all our bandwidth to their feed
- After I squawked about it, they restored community-wide access, so I
finished work on the Survey I posted last night
- Karly limped home, her ankle was still sore
- After McCain's consession, one of our adolescent boys stopped by our
home to invite us over for a champagne celebration in the common house
- Karly and I returned to the common house to be with about 15 very
happy folks, one of which cracked out a few bottles of Asti
- We realized that Fred and Nancy - and Chuck and Marilyn - probably
wouldn't be coming over (both are BIG Obama supporters)
- After pouring some glasses to take to them, it was suggested we take
the party to their house (the two couples have homes in the same
duplex)
- We descended, en masse, filling Fred and Nancy's living room to even
more ebullience
- Lots of jokes and excitement as we heard each other's joy and
speculated about the future
- Toasts began, considering the future of our country - with much hope
about the environment, health care, education, employment,
participatory democracy, and possibly even a future world of peace
- We went home and called some family members

Hooray for good neighbors - and this chance to celebrate!
