We also shared an older pickup truck (informally) at Songaia for several years. The challenge was the headaches that arose when a non-owner had an accident, increasing the owner's insurance cost... this may not be an issue in other states with different insurance practices. A few of us started investigating the creation of a formal organization that does bite the bullet to get the group insurance on multiple vehicles. Increased cost, yes- but if these costs shared across multiple users, it becomes less an issue. The two primary drivers for this effort were also on the 2009 Cohousing Conference Core Team. We decided to put this project off until after the conference, as it consumed rather an enormous amount of our energy. I'll share more about the Conference soon, but need to go off-line to restore my brain which was a bit over-stimulated. Also, last night we had four guests from the conference here and I have more hosting I need to do right now.
