Hi Ron, I am starting a new TND walkable community in downtown Franklin (an
hour west of Asheville) and we are working on bringing cohousing to
Franklin. We already have the land, master plan (36 units + common house)
and zoning for a cohousing pocket neighborhood within our community of 23
acres/ 150 homes/units.

"Sanctuary Village - a new in-town community in the North Carolina Mountains
and the first to exemplify the highest standards of Traditional Neighborhood
Design. TND approaches put a premium on the advantages of compact, walkable,
mixed-use communities. Located just 5 blocks from historic Main Street,
Sanctuary Village will be state-of-the-art in every way, with
architect-designed homes of varying scales and with the latest in
green-building technologies and materials. Yet as new as it is, The Village
will feel familiar to those who have enjoyed life in the best of our
nation's oldest neighborhoods, where shops, cafes, book stores, cultural
events, and community gathering spots are within a short walk"

"Simply put, Sanctuary Village is a front porch community of "arts and
crafts" homes with every aspect of the community designed to create an
opportunity to connect with others and to provide for healthy aging in
community"

Please check out our website (especially the news updates and resources
pages) and give me a call.

Thanks, Tim Ryan

Subject: [C-L]_ Developing an Affordable Model

I am a small builder and have been following the co-housing movement since
the beginning in the US. I also have experience living in intentional
community and have been a proponent of simple living for many years. I am
very interested in developing a model for affordable co-housing.

I am presently negotiating on property in Asheville NC. I would like to
build five or six small houses (under 1000 sq.ft) each with a studio
apartment that could be attached or a separate smaller cottage. The studios

could be rentals or structured into some form of co-ownership. In addition,

I am open to working with folks interested in coordinating construction
and/or sweat equity as owner builders to reduce cost.

If anyone is interested in this type of project in Asheville or anywhere
else, let me know.

Ron
