It's nomdb, but strictly as an ethics issue, given what I have read, it seems to me that the mistake of making a deal with a hotel that you can't get out of was an honest mistake with respect to the strike. If the union brushes off your offers of support and demands that you bail at great cost, I just might say something like "Brothers and sisters, I'm with you in principle, but your leadership would not work with us, kinda like management wouldn't work with them; therefore, we're having our meeting, next time and in the future we'll put a refund demand in our contract, and we will minimize our cooperation/business with the hotel this time.

I could be wrong, but that's the way I see it--for what an uninvolved third party opinion may be worth . . .

But would you expect a cohousing association to rent space in a KKK building or purchase stolen goods or buy appliances from proven polluters?

I think it is too late for the conference to move and I think the board is now alerted to these issues so it won't happen again, but the issue is still worth discussing because it is educational. People are sorting out their values by participating in it.
