At RoseWind Cohousing, Port Townsend WA, a household is allowed to  
have up to two pets who sometimes go outside. Cats are free to roam.  
Dogs must be leashed, or under direct voice control. We have a big  
central field where dog owners throw balls for their dogs to chase and  
fetch. We have some detail in the policy about dogs who threaten or  
bite people, but haven't needed to use it.

Owners scoop poop. This is also posted at the entry to our public  
pedestrian path and is pretty well observed by all.

Responsibility falls on the owner-member, in the case of dogs  
belonging to guests or contractors.
