19 years ago I had an idea for what I call a shareable unit, which could be in a coho or non-coho community. My idea is very similar to what Susan Green, Mariana Almeida, and others on this thread suggested. I don't know of any cohos in the US that have such a unit. I wish more of them did. Most coho units that are large enough to be shared by two or more unrelated people have a design that makes such sharing awkward. I myself would not have a housemate in a conventional coho unit, but would be willing to have one in a "shareable unit". In addition to holding down costs, one reason why a shareable unit should have a shared kitchen is that in most places if a living space has its own kitchen, under zoning it's considered a separate dwelling unit.
