We at Winslow Cohousing use an old Clivus composting toilet (minus the toilet) for our food scraps (30 households), we use wooden open bins for the green compost (clippings and old plants). And have an ever bigger stack for branches. We had a worm bin for the food waste, but it went anaerobic in the winter, couldn't handle the volume. this way we make our own compost for our garden beds. we are suburban though. With food waste, you have to make sure the composting system is well enclosed otherwise you will get rats. Now, both BainbridgeIsland where we are, and Seattle do curbside collection of yard and food waste. However, then you don't have the results for the garden. --audrey Winslow Cohousing Bainbridge Island
