waiting list

Carol,

I posted a question about that a few months ago, you can see the thread at
http://lists.cohousing.org/archives/cohousing-l/msg35550.html

Based on that advice, and our experience, we are revising our system (which
is post move in) to be a "Contact List" to put less burden on us to maintain
a prioritized list (which I think the name "waiting" might imply). We are
currently revising our by-laws (and so this is timely) to better reflect our
cohousing values and how we operate in practice. We expect to still have a
notification requirement for owners to allow the neighborhood to offer a
home for sale to those on the Contact List, who presumably will have visited
and know us and are waiting for an opportunity to join. In terms of
practicality, we use Constant Contact to maintain the list (I know some
people probably won't use that, but I think it is the best compromise for
efficiency, consistency and security that I know of).

I hope that helps a little. I'm happy to answer more questions or even
provide the draft of the section of our by laws from the committee working
on it (the By Law Ad Hoc team or "BLAH" :-).

We are thinking of doing a complete overhaul of our waiting list and would
love to avoid reinventing the wheel if someone has already created a policy
that works well for the seller and for the community. If you have a policy
that works well, could you send me a copy or a link to it on your web site?

Thanks,
